Private duty Nursing
Shift Nursing Care
Providing private duty nursing using a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
Private duty is a different model of home health as the skilled nursing is more individualized and continuous than intermittent home health care services.
What is the goal of private duty nursing?
- The provision of medically necessary, complex skilled nursing care in the home
- To assess, monitor and provide skilled nursing care in the home on an hourly, not intermittent, basis
- To assist in the transition of care from a more acute setting to home
- To prevent medical complications resulting in hospitalizations and facility placement
Who is an appropriate candidate for private duty nursing?
- An individual with unstable medical conditions who requires frequent nursing assessments and changes in the care plan
- An individual who requires constant monitoring and frequent adjustment of treatment regimens.
