Private duty Nursing

Shift Nursing Care

Providing private duty nursing using a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).

Private duty is a different model of home health as the skilled nursing is more individualized and continuous than intermittent home health care services.

What is the goal of private duty nursing?

  • The provision of medically necessary, complex skilled nursing care in the home
  • To assess, monitor and provide skilled nursing care in the home on an hourly, not intermittent, basis
  • To assist in the transition of care from a more acute setting to home
  • To prevent medical complications resulting in hospitalizations and facility placement

Who is an appropriate candidate for private duty nursing?

  1. An individual with unstable medical conditions who requires frequent nursing assessments and changes in the care plan
  2. An individual who requires constant monitoring and frequent adjustment of treatment regimens.
